West Highland White Terrier (clipped) Master Class by Agnes Murphy
 Ideally, the West Highland White Terrier (Westie) should be hand- stripped to maintain its harsh, wire coat. But so many pet owners find it both too time consuming and expensive to achieve. Despite the coat texture altering, a good groomer is able to achieve a similar natural look with the clever use of clippers, thinners and scissors. Here multi- award winning Agnes Murphy shows us how she transforms, styles and cares for these family favourites.
This Master Class is divided into six chapters. It can therefore be watched in its entirety or certain aspects can be chosen in order to refresh your skills.
After each chapter there is a Summary which reiterates the important factors and aids as reminders to various aspects of what has just been seen.
- Breed Standard. Before starting, Agnes discusses the shape, coat textures and characteristics of the breed.
- Preparation Work. Very important. Without thorough correct preparation, you will never achieve the desired look. From skin and coat care right through to clipping the hygiene areas, including ear, eye, mouth, nail care and brushing out methods. Agnes explains simply and methodically this essential routine.
- Bath and Drying. Correct procedures, including health and safety issues for both you and the dog. Positives of blasting and techniques whilst drying.
- Clipper work. The aim is to achieve a natural look. Agnes explains the option of various blades and introduces us to the wonderful world of metal comb attachments! Once clipped, the secret is to blend, blend, blend- Agnes shows us how.
- Scissor and Styling Work. Step by step we are taught how to achieve the desired look, referring always to the Breed Standard. Overall balance is crucial. The correct tools are discussed along with the importance of size- it matters! Agnes transforms the middle parting head into a spectacular chrysanthemum- wow! Now everything is possible!!
- Equipment and products. Everything that Agnes uses throughout the Master Class.
Competency level: This Master Class is perfect for pet owners, new groomers, exam candidates and advanced groomers.  Interaction between the Master and the presenter, fun and funky music along with various effects throughout ensures that this is definitely not just a boring grooming lecture!
