Pyreneans Desalazara are a small family run kennel of fit, healthy, show winning

Pyrenean Mountain Dogs.

Who are we?

Six Pyreneans, George, Trinny, Carrie, Tilly, Fernando and Florence...the owners of Graham, Jennifer and Hannah!!!

Pyreneans Desalazara is owned by Jennifer and Graham Ford with our daughter Hannah.

Our first Pyrenean Mountain Dog came into our lives as a 12 week puppy in 1993. Sal (Laudley Salazara) quickly proved to be a real character and we were totally smitten! So much so that we had to have another and a few months later Rosie (Laudley DeRoussillon) joined our household. A much loved part of the family, we simply wanted to enjoy each others company, doing the occasional show and plenty of ‘fun days’.

When we lost our two girls, our home became very empty and we quickly realised that we could not be without a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. We also sadly regretted never being able to breed from our girls, so we started the search for a new girl. We had more time available, so we wanted a bitch to show and one that was in some way related to our first two Pyreneans.

We eventually settled on the highly regarded Kalkasi kennel and a litter that Yvonne and Ian Baverstock had planned, sired by Kody (Ch Kalkasi Willows Surprise JW ShCM) whose sire was Rufus (Ch Laudley Dream Supreme) whose breeding was directly related to Sal and Rosie! We brought Maddie (Kalkasi Magical Beauty at Desalazara JW) home in November 2006.

The Desalazara affix was chosen as it was formed from the names of our first two girls, the “De” from Rosie’s DeRoussillon and “Salazara” from Sal’s name.

We enjoyed a highly successful 2007 with her in the Show ring before adding George (Kalkasi Care Free at Desalazara) to our home in December 2007. We were very fortunate to also bring home Trinny (Ch Gillandant Kiss and Tell at Desalazara) in April 2008 from a wonderful litter bred by Gill Pollard. Trinny gained her Champion title by winning the Bitch CC at Crufts 2010. Both George and Trinny continued our success in the Show ring through 2008, 2009 and into 2010.

Finally, Carrie (Gillandant Cherie Amour at Desalazara JW) came to live with us in October 2009, from the same breeding as Trinny. She made her Championship show debut in April 2010. By the end of May 2010 she had collected her first CC, (making her, as far as we are aware, the youngest ever CC winner in the breed, beating the former record of 9 months 8 days held by Ch Laudley Damascus). In June she gained her Junior Warrant and followed this in July with her second CC.

Sadly we lost Maddie in December 2010, she died peacefully at home after a very sudden but short illness. She was a true ambassador for the breed, everyone who met her melted under her expression and wonderful temperament. She was marvellous with children especially the very young. The whole family miss her.

In 2011, Carrie continues her success in the Show Ring winning her 3rd CC (gaining her Champion Title) and Best in Show at the South Eastern Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club Championship Show, her 4th CC at Bath and her 5th at Paignton where she also took Best in Breed. She has gone on to take another two CC's.

Trinny in June had her first litter of nine puppies. Some of which made their debut in the Show Ring in the December. We kept Tilly (Desalazara Alpine SnowBell) who completed her JW and has taken two Reserve CC's before her 2nd birthday.

In 2012 we took Carrie to the top Swedish kennel. We must thank Ingela and Pernilla, of the Vi'Skaly's , and all our Swedish friends,  for from  Obii  (V. African Tunda) we have produced an outstanding litter, four pups being shown in the UK and Lizzie with Bara in the Czech Republic. Fernando  winning his first CC and taking Best of Breed at Bath Champ Show aged just 10 months.

We are totally committed to  supporting and protecting the breed, to ensure the Pyreneans we know and love are safeguarded for future generations. It is our hope that we can contribute something, however small, to improving the quality of the breed in this country; building on all the good work that has gone before.

Graham is Secretary of the Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain and is working on a long term project to digitally capture the Club’s historic film archive, and eventually transfer it all to DVD. Hannah is also a Committee Member of the PMDC of GB, has passed the breed judging exam and had her first appointment at Easter 2011, and has enjoyed judging at further appointments. She has now completed and passed the Kennel Club "Requirements of a KC Judge" and "Confirmation and Movement" including passing the "Hand's on Assessment".

and not forgetting the grandchildren!!!
